Interzero key milestones

2022: Setting the course for the future and the foundation of Interzero: the owners of the ALBA Group, of which Interseroh is also a part, are reorganising the corporate group. They are creating agile units which correspond to both the market requirements and the individual business models. This development will see Dr. Axel Schweitzer taking responsibility for the business in Asia and the activities in the area of plastics recycling. With the introduction of the Interzero brand, he will be emphasizing the international corporate vision of a “world without waste”.

2021: The new Interseroh+ dual system is launched – with an innovative concept extending far beyond the packaging licensing. The goal is to close the material loops together with industry and the retail trade in a “recycling alliance” – and to jointly create a circular economy which is of equal benefit to the company, the conversation of resources, and climate protection.

2019: In time for entering into effect of the German packaging act (Verpackungsgesetz) on 1 January 2019, the Duales System Interseroh (DSI) now provides customised solutions to packaging marketers of many different sizes after the successful launch of the Lizenzero online shop for packaging licensing in the summer of 2018.

Interseroh continues to develop its performance range internationally as well. Its environmental services are represented in Austria, Slovenia, Poland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Italy.

2018: For the 11th time in sequence, Fraunhofer Institut UMSICHT has documented the positive effects of recycling of raw materials. Companies have also had the option of optimising their packaging recycling capabilities based on the new and scientifically based “Made for Recycling” method since 2018. Furthermore, Interseroh and Saubermacher AG founded their joint venture SIMPLi RETURN GmbH, the first returns and recycling system for lithium-ion batteries, in this year.

2017: The brandused.com online shop is going live: it sells used, reprocessed IT devices as well as new and unused technical products from company or warehouse clearing sales to end customers in order to give these devices a second life cycle.

2016: Interseroh celebrates a 25-year success story. Thanks to the confidence placed in our business by our domestic and international customers, we have now returned over 15 million tonnes of used packaging to the raw material loop, saving precious primary resources. A new centre of competence for recycling plastics is opened in Maribor, Slovenia, and Encory, a 50:50 joint venture between the ALBA Group and the BMW Group for sustainable car component management, is founded.

2015: Interseroh expands its sustainability reporting and launches its annual sustainability magazine. The journalistically edited publication presents Interseroh best practices in sustainability - both within the company and in collaboration with customers.

2013: Interseroh publishes its first Sustainability Report, which for the first time documents in detail and systematically how Interseroh’s own processes and customer projects are designed to be ecologically and socially compatible. The report presents key developments and key figures for the years 2010 to 2012 and complies with the internationally applicable guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

2011: The toom Baumarkt-branded paint bucket becomes the first product on the market made from “Procyclen”, the recycled plastic developed by Interseroh. The material used for the bucket is manufactured to almost 100% from plastic waste collected by the various German recycling systems.

2009: Closed-loop recycling for plastics: Interseroh develops “Recycled-Resource”, the multiple award-winning plastics recycling process.

2008: Interseroh becomes part of ALBA Group, a recycling specialist and raw material supplier, adding the concentrated know-how of the Group to its portfolio.

2007: The year of RTE pooling: Interseroh establishes an innovative pooling solution for transit packaging.

2006: Interseroh becomes the first company on the market to receive a nationwide license for its recycling services under the German “dual system”. The market competition created has been able to significantly increase the recycling rate of packaging waste.

2005: Interseroh starts to offer the take-back of single-use deposit beverage containers. We now operate ten stationary container counting centres and one mobile container counting centre.

2000: With Repasack, Interseroh offers a unique, pan-European take-back and recycling system for kraft paper sacks. The company also gets involved in environmental education with the launch of its award-winning “Eco Dragon” project for collecting empty printer cartridges in schools and nurseries.

1997: Interseroh’s service business goes international by setting up INTERSEROH Austria GmbH, an Austrian subsidiary and system operator. The following years see continuous expansion into further European countries.

1991: Where it all began. Company business initially focused on improving the recycling of packaging waste. Interseroh then started to expand its portfolio as a global provider of integrated environmental services, setting worldwide standards for waste prevention, high-tech sorting and innovative recycling solutions.
