Next-level circular economy: Interzero is revolutionising digital raw materials management

+++ Materialkonto gives companies a digital twin of their raw material/closed loop management system

+++ Innovative tool enables full transparency for managing recycling loops

+++ Interzero exhibits as a Group for the first time at IFAT 2024

Berlin/Cologne. New packaging requirements, amendments to rules for sustainability reporting, access to material streams and fluctuations in raw material prices are all presenting companies with many challenges in relation to the circular economy. Not least because sustainable economic practices are now no longer a mere calling card for businesses. With an eye on these challenges, circular service provider Interzero has developed a digital tool for managing raw materials in the loop.

Materialkonto: a digital innovation for closed loops

The Materialkonto (‘material account’) is Interzero’s digital twin for raw materials management. The tool can be used to ensure transparency when managing and documenting recycling loops. Recyclables can be easily managed in the loop, while access to recycled raw materials is guaranteed at all times. This enables companies to reduce their use of primary resources, avoid bottlenecks in production, and maintain independence from market price developments for the quantities they manage in the loop.

“At a time when supply chains are particularly exposed to outside pressure, manufacturers are well advised to secure access to recycled raw materials. The Materialkonto ensures that resources are not wasted but reused instead. This is a true innovation that lets companies secure their future in many ways while strengthening their own control over resources,” said Sebastiaan Krol, CEO of Interzero Circular Solutions.

From waste to internally sourced recyclable

The path taken by each material flow – whether plastics, metals, cardboard, electric components or lithium‑ion batteries – can be tracked digitally and in real time. Wastes are posted to the Materialkonto as a raw material and remain visible at all times during the recycling process. Companies therefore always know the whereabouts and quantities of their recyclables and can withdraw these as needed as recycled raw materials for production.

Britta von Selchow, Head of Sales Circular Solutions at Interzero explains: “In our experience, managing raw materials and components in the loop – and being able to reuse them for in-house production – is becoming more important for manufacturers for three reasons: to fulfil legal requirements, to be more resilient against fluctuations in supply chains in a land poor in raw materials such as Germany and – last but not least – to achieve cost advantages by re-using components.”

IFAT 2024: Interzero underscores its strong commitment to the circular economy with a Group-wide presence

When IFAT, the world’s leading environmental technology fair, opens its doors on 13 May, visitors to Interzero’s stand will be able to enjoy a 360° experience of the circular economy. As a provider of circular services and two-times winner of the German Sustainability Award, Interzero will be presenting a comprehensive look at the Group’s portfolio. The interactive stand offers plenty to discover alongside ‘zero-waste solutions’, such as innovations in plastics recycling, new digital products like the Materialkonto (‘material account’) and many other solutions for a world without waste.

The new Sustainability Magazine from Interzero is also published today to coincide with IFAT. Titled ‘Win-Win – Together for the Closed-Loop Economy’, the magazine introduces recent projects, innovative technologies and impactful activities. The Sustainability Magazine is available as a download.
