New Space for Innovation: Interzero Plastics Innovations Celebrates Move into New, Modern Laboratory and Office Facilities

+++ High-ranking guests from business and politics gathered in Lenart, Slovenia, to discuss the role of innovation in the circular economy.

Innovation requires space – not only the intellectual freedom to think of new ideas and ask the right questions, but also practical space. With the new laboratory and office facilities in Lenart, Slovenia, the Interzero Plastics Innovations competence centre is creating optimal conditions to further expand its leading role in the field of the circular economy. This step marks a significant milestone in realising the vision of a world without waste.

The official opening of the new location was attended by high-ranking guests from politics, business, and the media. Among them were, alongside Interzero Chairman Dr. Axel Schweitzer, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, and the German Ambassador Sylvia Groneick, both of whom emphasised the importance of Interzero's innovation work for a sustainable future.

"We must truly internalise the sustainable handling of goods and packaging, meaning a shift from the linear to the circular economy," said Dr. Axel Schweitzer in his opening speech. "In order for us to circulate more materials, the recyclability of packaging must be considered from the outset. We need innovative solutions for the materials and products that are not yet circular today."

Dr Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia and keynote speaker at the event, also emphasised in her speech the inevitability of switching to a circular and sustainable use of plastics as well as efficient reuse and recycling. ‘To achieve truly significant results, the problem must be tackled holistically across the entire life cycle of plastic products and materials and across national borders.’ The President further explained that she continues to count on the knowledge and innovative solutions of the Interzero Competence Centre in the future.

The services of the internationally accredited laboratory are specifically tailored to the needs of the business sector. In addition to research and development, the lab focuses on developing solutions that help companies produce new products from high-quality recyclates.

The competence centre also offers consultancy on cost and energy optimisation in production, as well as the processing of plastics from various raw material sources.

"Through evaluation and analysis, we provide our customers with high-quality recycled plastics tailored to their needs, which have comparable or even better technical properties than primary raw materials, thus offering a sustainable alternative," said Dr. Manica Ulčnik-Krump, Head of the facility.

The potential applications for these materials are extremely diverse – from household, sports, and leisure products to packaging and designer furniture.

With the opening of the new facilities, Interzero once again highlights its commitment to driving the transition to the circular economy through pioneering technologies and sustainable solutions.
