Circular economy in construction: conserving sustainability and resources with recycling

Interzero at trade fair BAU 2023

Sustainability is a major topic at Bau 2023, with the construction industry facing resource shortages, material bottlenecks and supply chain problems. This is because the construction industry consumes more resources and produces more waste than any other industrial sector. Ever stricter legal regulations are forcing us to take action. For ecological and economic reasons, there is an urgent need to rethink and develop an improved circular economy in construction. Interzero provides new food for thought and efficient recycling solutions to improve the sustainability balance in the construction industry.

Interzero organises the take-back and recycling of commercial packaging such as transport packaging as well as product residues and used goods of all materials - nationwide and sustainably and can be found at BAU 2023 in the Innovation Hub in Hall B0, Stand 112.

Many years of experience and an extensive portfolio for the construction industry

Interzero has been operating nationwide take-back and recycling solutions for commercial packaging such as transport packaging for over 30 years. Every year, the recycling service provider coordinates around two million collections for more than 4,000 customers in over 20 sectors. With a nationwide recycling and logistics network, Interzero ensures that packaging from industry, trade and commerce is easily taken back and recycled in a way that conserves resources. Interzero also organises innovative recycling solutions for product remnants and used goods. Whether repair, recycling, return to in-house production or professional disposal: Interzero bundles material flows and optimises recycling processes. In this way, more and more recyclable materials are recycled and raw materials are secured. Construction waste of all kinds (wood, mineral wool, building rubble, etc.) can be disposed of easily and in an environmentally friendly manner via the Interzero take-back platform ecoservice24.com. Interzero offers construction companies and tradesmen a wide range of disposal solutions for over twenty-five different types of waste: from the classic skip container to the convenient 1 m³ big bag.

Optimum use of resources - individual recycling solutions in practice: Interzero organises the reuse of Ytong and Multipor leftovers

Interzero has developed an efficient concept for building materials manufacturer Xella to close the product cycle for construction site waste from Ytong aerated concrete and Multipor mineral insulation boards. Instead of being disposed of in a construction waste container, the cuttings are collected directly on the construction site in big bags according to type. The big bags are collected by Interzero Logistics so that Xella can reprocess the unmixed residual material and reintroduce it into production as regrind. This saves valuable raw materials and conserves resources. Thanks to this sustainable take-back solution, more than 8,000 tonnes of residual materials have already been recycled.

Cooperation with the Industrieverband Hartschaum e.V. (IVH): Sustainable reuse of EPS processing waste

Together with the Industrieverband Hartschaum e.V. (IVH), Interzero has developed the ideal solution for EPS manufacturers to take back offcuts of EPS insulation materials. The clean construction site offcuts are collected in plastic bags, shredded at the EPS manufacturing plant and recycled together with production residues.
